Pierre Morel, director of the re-adaptation of Dune, has told Tribeca Film that he won't be turning Dune into an action film. That's something, right?

Apparently Morel is a long-time fan of the novel. He tells Tribeca, "I'm a huge Dune fan, a reader, like for 30 years; I read it when I was a teenager. I've read it 10 times maybe, so I want to stay true to the book." While he does say that there is room for some action, he claims primarily to be interested in telling the story. "It's not about action. It's not the point. It's not about [making] an action movie," he tells the website. "It's just doing Dune."

So, this isn't exactly a huge promise -- he's basically saying he's not going to ruin the source work -- but it's still somewhat reassuring. At least he's not trying to put a new twist on it.
